Resizing SVG files is one of those simple little tricks that can completely transform your paper craft projects. Whether you’re making gift boxes, 3D paper decorations, or intricate pop-up pieces, being able to scale a design up or down gives you the freedom to customize it for any occasion. Maybe you want a tiny favor box for party treats—or maybe you want the same design supersized for a special gift. With SVG files, you can do all of that without losing quality or detail.
In 3D paper crafts especially, adjusting the size of a template can make a huge difference in how the final piece is used. Small versions are perfect for ornaments, mini gifts, or table décor, while larger versions can become full-sized gift boxes, centerpieces, or display pieces. The beauty of SVGs is that they scale cleanly, so your project stays crisp and precise no matter how big or small you make it.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the easiest way to resize cutting files (SVG or Studio) in the Silhouette Studio software. But the process is the same for the Cricut Design Space.
🔗Christmas Coffee Cup Gift Boxes (SVG • DXF • Silhouette Studio)

The original boxes are about 15.5 cm (6.1 in) tall with an 8.5 cm (3.3 in) lid. If you’re using a standard 30×30 cm (12×12 in) cutting mat, you can scale them up to make a much larger version—around 28.5 cm (11.2 in) tall with a 16.5 cm (6.5 in) lid.
1. Select all parts and scale them so the largest piece fits the cutting mat.
2. Break the path on two points.

3. Release compound path.

4. You can leave the dashed line as it is and simply cut it with scissors afterward. This works well if you’re only making one box and want to save the enlarged file in your library. You can also choose to close the path instead.
5. Here you need to draw a tab and a score line.

7. Break the path and release the compound path.
8. Close the path on the right part.
9. Draw the tab and add the score line on the left part.

10. Break the path. 11. Draw the tab and a score line. 12. Close the line.

So now you have all the resized parts perfectly fitting your 30×30 cm (12×12 in) cutting mat. All that’s left is to choose your favorite cardstock, send the pieces to your cutting machine, and start assembling your new enlarged project. Take your time lining up the folds and glue tabs, and you’ll end up with a beautifully scaled piece that looks completely intentional. Whether it’s a gift box or a 3D decoration, your oversized creation is sure to impress—get ready for the “wow” moments!

Happy crafting!
