Christmas is my favorite season for cozy crafting, and I know I’m not alone. Whether you knit, crochet, or just admire the magic of yarn, there’s something about this time of year that feels extra special. Inspired by this, I designed a Christmas snow globe pop up card featuring a stack of yarn balls arranged in the shape of a Christmas tree with a star on top.
Yes, yarn balls! A colorful pyramid of yarn that looks festive, fun, and just perfect for yarn lovers. I’ve created this design as both an SVG/DXF cutting file for Cricut or Silhouette machines and a printable PDF for hand-cutting. If you’re looking for a creative handmade gift to delight your favorite knitter or crocheter—or even yourself—this card is a must.
Why Yarn? Why a Snowglobe?
There’s something magical about snowglobes. Shake them up, and they transport you to a tiny world of winter wonder. I wanted to capture that feeling but make it personal for my yarn-loving friends.
Yarn balls stacked like a Christmas tree bring out the coziness of the season. They remind me of evenings spent curled up under a blanket, knitting away with my favorite show playing in the background.
This Christmas snowglobe shadow box card combines everything I love: the 3D effect of layered paper, the charm of a snowglobe, and a nod to the yarn that keeps so many hands busy during the winter months. It’s a little keepsake card that feels as warm as a hand-knit scarf.
The Design: Yarn Balls as a Christmas Tree
The main focus of this Christmas snow globe pop up card is a pyramid of yarn balls stacked to resemble a Christmas tree. I’ve added little details to bring the yarn to life—tiny curls, realistic round shapes, and depth from the layered design. It’s simple yet festive!
On the background layer I’ve added snow. The layers give the card beautiful depth and make it pop open like a little diorama.
I designed the card to fold flat for easy gifting or mailing. But once opened, it stands proudly as a display piece. It’s the kind of handmade card someone will treasure long after the holidays are over.
If you want the yarn balls to really pop, ink the edges of the paper. This gives them more depth and a slightly rustic feel.
And don’t forget the back of the card! Leave a handwritten message for the recipient. Something simple like “May your holidays be cozy and full of yarn” is perfect for a knitter or crocheter.

🎄 Making the Christmas Snow Globe Pop Up Card
You can create this card using the version that works best for you:
- SVG/DXF Cutting File: Perfect for Cricut, Silhouette, or any other cutting machine. Simply upload the file, choose your favorite cardstock, and let the machine cut the pieces for you. I’ve included score lines to make folding super easy.
- Printable PDF: Ideal for hand-cutting with scissors and a craft knife. It’s a little more hands-on, but I find hand-cutting paper so satisfying. Plus, you don’t need any fancy equipment—just patience and love for crafting.
‼️ Printable PDF is only for hand-cutting, there is no print-and-cut file with the according marks for printing on printer and cutting with the electronic cutting machine.
Zipped folder includes: SVG, DXF and PDF formats.
• DXF files can be used by Silhouette users. This format can be opened with the free software version of Silhouette Studio.
• SVG files – for Cricut Explore, Silhouette Designer Edition, Brother Scan and Cut “Canvas” software, Adobe Suite, Inkspace, Corel Draw and more.
• PDF is a ready to print files (A4 paper size, 300 dpi).
